Background: The Australian Shepherd, contrary to what one may think, did not develop in Australia, but in the Pyrenees mountains in Europe. Infused with a strong herding and guarding instinct, the Australian Shepherd can work all day, come home and still have energy left to play with the family. One of the most distinctive features of this breed is that puppies may be born with their tails naturally bobbed. In the instances where this is not true, the tails are usually docked. Personality: Definitely not an apartment dog, the Australian Shepherd is an intelligent, active dog. This breed picks up training quickly and is fairly easy to maintain if it has enough room to run.
