Background: One of the three types of Belgian sheep herding dogs recognized by the AKC, the Belgian Malinois is sometimes referred to as the Malines Sheepdog. Similar in appearance to the German Shepherd the Belgian Malinois is a hardy dog with a strong drive in the field. This dog also makes an excellent guard dog due to his natural, protective nature. Personality: A dedicated sheepdog, this is an outstanding worker in the field and a loyal, faithful companion at home. Makes an excellent guard dog. As this is an energetic breed with a strong protective instinct, this dog should be trained well early in life. This dog is not suited for apartment life. Physical Appearance:
