Background: The Belgian Tervuren was previously classified as a variety of the Belgian Sheepdog and was separated out into a breed in 1959. In fact, Tervurens were created from dark fawn puppies that showed up in the Belgian Sheepdog litters. A distinctive breed with a beautiful mahogany coat with a black overlay, this breed shares all the physical characteristics of the other Belgian sheep herding breeds. Like them this breed has been used for a multitude of purposes such as herding, guarding, police and military work and as a companion. Personality: Generally not suited for apartment life.
