Background:

The Bouvier Des Flandres is a powerful, short coupled dog that originated in France.  Bred to serve as an all purpose farm dog, the Bouvier has fulfilled many roles such as farm dog, herding dog, guard dog, carting dog and companion.  An very good natured breed, this dog fits into the family very well adapting to home life with ease.  Recognized by the AKC in 1929, the Bouvier has slowly become more popular in the US.

Personality:

The Bouvier makes an excellent companion dog pulling double duty as a guard dog.  It is highly adaptable to family life only needing regular coat care and a good run a few times each week.  Its size and activity level make it unsuited for apartment life.
