Background:

The Canaan Dog is a breed recently developed from the Pariah dogs of Palestine.  The predecessors of this breed have been indigenous to this region for thousands of years.  With its unusually acute awareness, the dog can detect the presence of intruders or strangers at great distances.  Also used to guard and tend cattle and sheep, this dog has an incredible capacity to learn.  This has led to the breed being put to newer uses such as guide dog to the blind, message carrier and mine detector.
