Background:
The Collie comes in two types - the Rough Collie and the Smooth Collie.
One of the most popular dogs since the advent of Lassie, the Collie is one of
the breeds that has suffered heavily from over breeding by unscrupulous, puppy
mill breeders. The breed has snow recovered to some extent from that
period of unbridled popularity. For centuries, this breed has been an
outstanding sheepdog, working the flock with patience, dedication and
thoroughness. It has also served as a guard dog, rescue dog, companion and
as a guide dog.
Personality:
The Collie is an even tempered dog that is a pleasure to be around.
Some individuals of this breed love to frolic around, with a natural
clownishness. Not aggressive by nature, they are nevertheless suspicious
of strangers and protective of the home and family. Because of all its
nice qualities and its outstanding beauty, the Collie is an ideal companion dog.
