Background:

The Welsh Corgi - Pembroke is believed to have come from breeding the native Welsh dogs to Flemish spitz type breeds.  Different from the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi was initially shown together with the other breed until the 1930s when the two breeds were separated out.  Bred to serve as a herder, the Pembroke achieved fame when selected as a pet by the Royal family.  Since then, this breed has steadily become more popular.
