Background:
The Afghan Hound originated in south Asia centered around the Pakistan,
Afghanistan, Indian border. This breed was created to serve multiple
roles, not just that of a hunter, but also a surefooted guardian and companion
in the rugged, hilly terrain. At times, the Afghan has also played the
role of a herding dog, tending to the herds of his family. Of late, this
breed has become more a luxury dog due to the innate beauty of the coat and its
regal carriage. In order to maintain its coat in good condition, the
Afghan requires hours of patient grooming each week.
Personality:
The Afghan is a courageous, sensitive, intelligent dog that responds well to
gentle training. As a pet, it is an outstanding dog, only needing a good
deal of exercise in the form of long brisk walks or a good run in the park.
