Background:

The American Foxhound originated in the Virginia, Maryland area of the United States.  Having a keener sense of smell than the English Foxhound, the American Foxhound is also lighter and faster in the chase.  Bred to track down man or animal, this breed is untiring in the chase all day long.

Personality:

A tranquil, affectionate dog at home, it morphs into a tenacious, excited hound when on the trail of quarry.  Very suitable for a farm setting or a rural area, they make good pets at home and get along with the entire family.
