Background:

The Black and Tan Coonhound is a scent hound meaning it tracks its quarry by following its scent trail until it is within sight.  It is a tough working dog that can overcome a lot of obstacles in its work to achieve its ends.  Typically, on trailing and locating a raccoon or similar animal, the quarry takes to the trees for safety.  This is called 'treeing' in the vocabulary of the hunt and the B&T Coonhound is the master in this respect.  In addition, this dog is also used for tracking and hunting big game.
