Background:
The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen is a member of the scent hound family bred
to hunt hare and other small animals. It is built low to the ground, with
wiry hair and a strong hunting instinct. A native of France, this breed
was recognized by the AKC in 1990.
Personality:
The Petit Basset is a lot of dog in a small body. Though mainly bred as
a hunting dog, his size has also made him an ideal companion dog and a family
pet. As with some other hound breeds, the hunting instinct is strong and
some good training is essential for the dog.
