Background:

The Whippet looks like a miniature greyhound and like the greyhound, it is a sight hound capable of high speeds.  It is used as a coursing dog in short courses.  Of course, it was bred primarily to capture small animals, not for racing.  It is a deceptively powerful dog, resistant to illness and quite long lived.

As with all hound breeds, the whippet needs a lot of exercise.  It is an excellent pet at home, calm and collected, barking only when the situation demands it.
