Background:
The Jack Russell Terrier was developed by an English Clergyman, Parson Jack
Russell in the 1800s as a fox hunter small enough to go to ground after the fox
into his lair. A seemingly smaller version of the Smooth Fox Terrier, the
Jack Russell Terrier is currently listed as a miscellaneous class breed with the
AKC awaiting acceptance into regular classes.
Personality:
Like most hunting terriers, the Jack Russell Terrier is valued more as a
companion than a hunter. A lively energetic dog, this breed is often dog
aggressive and may not get along well with unfamiliar dogs. Still somewhat
rare in the US, it has gained greater recognition and notoriety since one of its
breed started appearing in the popular TV series 'Frasier'.
