Background:

Descended from the Hanoverian hounds of Germany, this breed was started by George Plott in 1750.  Used to hunt big game such as bear, boar and mountain lion, the Plott Hounds are also used as treeing coonhounds today.  This is a powerful dog with an unrestricted hunting instinct.  This breed is listed in the Miscellaneous class with the AKC.

Personality:

A fierce, raw hunter, this dog is not meant to be a pet or a housedog.  Built solely for the hunt, it excels at its assigned task.  This is not a dog for the casual pet owner.

Coat Smooth, short and glossy
Color Any shade of brindle
Head Moderately flat skull with a powerful muzzle
Ears Medium length, hanging gracefully
Eyes Brown or Hazel
Body Well muscled with a sloping back and well sprung ribs
Tail Saber like, carried freely
