Background:

The Poodle comes in three sizes: the Standard Poodle, the Miniature Poodle and the Toy Poodle.  Other than the size variation, the appearance, temperament and features are the same. Of the three, the Standard Poodle is the oldest type.  Bred originally as a working dog in France, the Poodle is an excellent swimmer, working as a gun dog or bird dog on occasion.   The Poodle has since become valued as an ornamental companion dog.  Because of its size, and lively attitude the Poodle is mostly seen as a companion dog today.  This breed does make a good watch dog as it is a quick barker able to pick up on even the slightest noise.

A proud, active dog, the Poodle makes an ideal companion around the home.  The Miniature and toy varieties also make great apartment dogs.
