Background:

The Schipperke hails from the Flemish province of Belgium.  Originally bred as a boat dog, the Schipperke also is an efficient watch dog and delightful companion at home.  A small cobby, tail less dog, this dog was a huge hit since its first public show in 1880.  It has spread to most countries in the world.  

Personality:

An alert, intelligent dog, the Schipperke may seem somewhat detached at times, but this dog is really fond of its family, especially children.  A beautiful dog with a signature coat that sheds very little, this is an ideal apartment dog.
