Background:

The Tibetan Spaniel originated in the Tibetan portions of the Himalayan range.  Bred and maintained by Budhist monks mainly as companion dogs, they also earned their keep as alert sentinels, warning the monks of approaching strangers.  As they were bred to live in a community with other Tibetan Spaniels, Tibetan Mastiffs and a number of monks, these dogs are very accepting of company.  They do not display any aggression towards dogs or humans other than to warn of their approach.  As their beautiful coat requires only occasional brushing to keep in shape, this dog is ideal as a pet and alarm dog.

Personality:

With a trusting nature and a calm disposition, the Tibetan Spaniel fulfils the role for which he was bred, that as a companion, to the fullest possible extent.  This dog is ideal as a lap dog, pet and a cuddly companion.
