Background:
The American water spaniel emerged with the contribution of the curly coated
retriver and the Irish Water spaniel. The American Water Spaniel is a strong sporting dog built for hunting in
difficult terrain. It is a strong swimmer with a tightly curled, oily coat
that gives it a 'waterproof' quality. It is an excellent hunter in the
water, woods and uneven terrain. This breed was recognized by the AKC in
1940.
Personality:
An enthusiastic, eager to work dog which is tenacious, obedient and very
responsive to good training.
