Background:

Developed in England over 400 years ago and shown for the first time in England in 1859, the English setter is a sleek, powerful dog that has retained its popularity over the centuries.  Not only is it prized for its working abilities, it is also highly favored as a companion dog.  It requires a good amount of exercise to keep it in shape as English Setters tend to put on weight if allowed to.

Personality:

As a sporting dog, it is tenacious and eager at work, tirelessly locating and flushing game for the hunter.  As a companion and pet, it is a mild mannered, affectionate dog eager to greet the family and play with the kids.
