Background:
A relatively young breed, a multitude of dogs were used in its
development. As a result of such a wide ranging gene pool used in its
development, the German Wirehaired Pointer is an extremely versatile dog with
many different traits bred into it more than a century ago. This
breed was first recognized by the AKC in 1959.
Personality:
The German Wirehaired Pointer is a steady dog, vigorous in the field and
affectionate at home. Like the shorthaired type, they do require a lot of
space and do better in the country than in an apartment. It does tend to
get jealous of other dogs at times.
