Background:

Of Hungarian origin, the Vizsla has quickly become popular worldwide in recent decades.  It was recognized in 1960 by the AKC but was well known in the US even prior to that.  It is a distinguished, robust dog with an elastic gait that is renowned as a hunter over difficult terrain, including marshes and brush.

Personality:

The Vizsla is an intelligent, obedient and trainable dog.  It does well both in the field and as a family pet.  It does prefer open areas to run and play and as such, it would need a home at least with a fenced yard to run around in.

Coat Short, close to the body
Color Dark, sandy yellow
Head Squared off, moderately broad skull with open nostrils
Ears Thin, long and rounded
Eyes Blends with the color of the body
Body Strongly muscled, proportionate with a short back
Tail Docked one-third off
