Background:
The Border Terrier was bred first in the border area between England and
Scotland. This breed was first recognized by the AKC in 1930.
Perhaps the least flashy of all the terriers, it is a small dog with a
distinctive 'Otter' head, a rough, wiry coat and a lively personality.
Bred mainly to serve as a fox hunter, the Border Terrier has the ability to
follow horses on the hunt and go to ground after the fox. In recent times,
this breed has assumed a greater role as a housedog and pet, rather than a
hunter.
Personality:
This breed makes an excellent house or apartment dog due to its small size
and friendly nature. As it still retains a strong hunting instinct, it is
absolutely essential to socialize this dog with other dogs and animals at an
early age.
