The Miniature Schnauzer was bred from its larger cousin, the Standard Schnauzer with Poodle and Affenpinscher, for the purpose of going to ground after vermin and small animals.  Despite its small size, the Miniature Schnauzer is a compactly muscled dog bred for a functional purpose and this is evident in his structure, attitude and disposition.  This breed is alert, energetic and tireless.  Because of its size and disposition, this makes an ideal companion for apartment dwellers with outdoor weekend plans.  This breed needs grooming and brushing on a regular basis.
