Background:

The Skye Terrier was bred originally in the Isle of Skye in Scotland to hunt and destroy fox, badger and other small vermin.  The unique feature of the Skye is its beautiful coat which serves the dual purpose of protecting it against harsh weather and protects it against injury from its quarry.  However, it is the beauty of the coat that has made the Skye Terrier an attractive companion and show dog.  Its good nature and temperament are just an added bonus in making them excellent companions.  The coat of this breed  requires regular brushing.
