Background:

The West Highland White Terrier is believed to be a white Cairn Terrier by some.  Though not indisputable, it is certain that this dog was developed from the Scottish terriers of that time to serve as a 'go to ground' dog.  This dog is a well balanced, game terrier with a beautiful coat that is an outstanding feature of this breed.

Personality:

A spunky, alert, active dog that has a large spirit in a small body, the Westie is also a friendly, wonderful companion to the family.  Requiring some care to keep its coat beautiful, the Westie is one of the breeds ideally suited for apartment or country life.
