Background:

The Wire Haired Fox Terrier shares its ancestry with many of the terriers of that area including the Smooth Fox Terrier.  However, this breed has an attractive coat of rough hair that looks like coconut fibers.  This dense, shaggy coat is what makes this such a popular breed in the ring and at home.  Originally bred to hunt fox, badger, skunk and other vermin, this breed is almost exclusively used as a pet and companion dog today.

Personality:

A confident, alert dog of medium build, the Wire Haired Fox Terrier is not easily intimidated by new people or things.  As this is a good barker, it serves well as a watch dog in apartments and houses.
