Background:

The English Toy Spaniel originated in England in the 17th century during the reign of King Charles II who popularized this breed.  Because of this, the breed is also referred to as the King Charles Spaniel (not to be confused with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel).  Bred solely for the purpose of being a companion and a lap dog, this breed is ideally suited for that role and loves nothing more than to spend the evening curled up in the master's lap by the fireside.

Personality:

A sociable, friendly dog, the English Toy Spaniel is an ideal pet for the elderly and less active due to its loving nature and laid back approach to life.  This breed is a perfect apartment dog, only needing regular brushings to keep its coat healthy.
