Background:

The Yorkshire Terrier is said to have been bred by miners in the county or Yorkshire to work as ratters in the mines.  This breed with its magnificent coat, however, has proved to be much more popular as a pet and companion.  The pups of this breed are born almost black and it takes up to a year to develop the coat specified in the breed standard.

Personality:

An alert, lively dog, the Yorkshire Terrier, or Yorkie as it is called, is a wonderful watch dog around the house.  It is also a delightful companion in any house or apartment and loves to play with the family, adult and child alike.
