Background:

Developed to be a guard dog, working dog and a fighting dog, the Boxer has also gained favor as a companion and pet due to its good nature and friendly behavior.  This breed was first recognized by the AKC in 1904.  It is a medium sized dog with a well muscled body.  Used long ago to hunt bear and fight bulls, the temperament of the breed was greatly improved by careful breeders till today's pleasant and friendly boxer emerged.

Personality:

A friendly, energetic dog, the Boxer is loyal and playful with the family while somewhat suspicious of strangers.  Though not quite as long lived as some other breeds, the boxer fulfils the life of his family as a delightful companion and faithful protector.
