Background:
Of similar ancestry as the Standard Schnauzer, the Giant Schnauzer is a
larger, stronger version. Bred mainly to help in herding, the Giant
Schnauzer later took on additional roles as police dog, guard dog and
companion. At one point, it was even used by the military in battle
fields. Due to its size and structure and due to the fact that these dogs
require a lot of exercise, they do not make good apartment dogs.
Personality:
A loyal faithful companion at home, they are very suspicious of strangers and
even strange children and must be watched carefully with company. It is
imperative to start obedience training this breed early in life and socialize it
fully when still a puppy.
