Background:
Bred to hunt bear, boar and other large game, the Great Dane is often called
the 'Apollo of dogs'. Blessed with an imposing presence that is hard to
ignore, the Great Dane is a gentle giant with a heart of a warrior. There
are six coat colors in the Dane which are Black, Fawn (Tawny), Brindle, Blue,
Mantle (Black with White trim) and
Harlequin (Black and White). Throughout
history, the Great Dane, in all colors, have served as hunting dogs, guard dogs,
war dogs, carting dogs and companions.
Personality:
An even tempered, affectionate dog, the Great Dane possesses a keen
intelligence and will protect his family if the situation demands it. A good
amount of training is essential for this breed not because it is overly
excitable or aggressive, but a casual tug while on leash can knock a grown man
down. Definitely not meant for small places.
