Background:

Believed to have originated in the Siberian tundra, the Samoyed had been bred to draw sleds, herd reindeer and guard the home.  This dog assumed its name from the tribe of people thought to have domesticated and bred these dogs.  One of the most attractive features of this breed is the white coat that remains weather resistant even in the worst cold.  This breed has remained steadily popular over the years, first as a working dog and later as a companion and pet.

Personality:

The Samoyed is a loyal companion that loves nothing more than the company of its family.  The dog does require maintenance in the form of training and regular brushing (sheds heavily).  Given such care, these dogs make companions with distinction.
